William E. O'Neill Jr. Obituary

EXETER - William (Bill) E. O'Neill Jr. of Exeter, NH, died unexpectedly on September 30, 2021. Born March 4, 1951, in Salem, MA, Bill was the son of William E. O'Neill of Peabody and June S. (Paine) O'Neill of Marblehead.

Bill grew up in Danvers, MA, graduated from Danvers High School, and received a BS in Accounting from Northeastern University. After starting his career as a CPA, Bill held numerous positions in healthcare finance, including CFO of a Boston area health center. After growing tired of the stress and long hours of the finance industry, Bill went back to school and began a new career in database administration. He spent the last few decades of his career at Salem Hospital, working as a database scientist.

Bill lived in Exeter, NH, with his son Terry, daughter-in-law Sabrina, and grandchildren Ashton and Emma. Bill loved spending time with them, sharing meals, hanging out on the deck, entertaining, and taking trips up north for camping, skiing, or white water rafting. Most especially, Bill loved being a daily part of Ashton's and Emma's lives. Bill also enjoyed spending time with his friends, whether it was going out to dinner and a show, taking weekend trips, or their annual week-long trip to Canada. Bill loved the arts, especially music, and spent many years playing the classical guitar and singing in the Newburyport Choral Society. Over the years, he loved all of his animal friends (except for Ralph and Red, the roosters) including his favorite cat, Big O; his husky, Kody; and most recently, Terry and Sabrina's dog, Mac.

Bill leaves behind his much-loved family: his son Terence O'Neill and wife Sabrina of Exeter; Terence's mother Lucinda O'Neill of Boxford, MA; his grandchildren Ashton and Emma; his sisters Donna O'Neill and wife Anne Mulvey of Groveland, MA, and Kathleen O'Neill of Ayer, MA; his brother-in-law James Meaney of Hudson, NH; his five nieces and nephews; and his 12 great-nieces and great-nephews. Bill was predeceased by his parents and by his sister Barbara Meaney of Hudson, NH.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 8, with visitation beginning at 4:30 p.m. followed by a service at 6 p.m., at Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home & Crematory, 77 Exeter Road (Route 108), Newmarket, NH.

Bill was recently diagnosed with Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia, a rare type of cancer, and was participating in a clinical trial at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284.
