IPSWICH - William L. O'Neill, Jr, 72, husband of Susan M. (Benedetto) O'Neill of Ipswich, died Sunday, May 7, 2023, on the 3rd hole of Ould Newbury Golf Club, cutting short both a life well lived and a promising round of golf. He was a devoted Husband, Brother, Father, Friend, and award-winning Grandfather. Bill was born in Waterbury, CT on October 16, 1950, the oldest child of the late William L O'Neill Sr. and Helen Dalton. Bill graduated Xavier High School in 1968 with many Athletic and Scholastic accomplishments to his name. He went on to graduate from the University of Pennsylvania in 1972 where he competed on the Varsity Football team and forged friendships that fueled a lifetime of stories. Bill trained with the New York (Football) Giants before entering the workforce. He began an accomplished career in sales with the Wausau Insurance Agency and ended it most recently with the King's Agency. Bill enjoyed a distinguished career that spanned decades and was recognized most often for his integrity and customer-centric service. Outside of work, he was recognized for his big laugh, blind devotion to his Faith and his Family, his commitment to the elderly and the unborn, and his relentless pursuit of the perfect round of golf.

In addition to Susan, his wife of 45 years, he is survived by his daughter, Kathryn A. Fitzgerald, and her husband, Michael of Caldwell, NJ; two perfect grandsons, Jack W. and William J. Fitzgerald of Caldwell, NJ; a sister, Karen Nappo and her husband Dr. Pat Nappo of Hudson, NH, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

His funeral will be held Friday, May 12 at 9 a.m. from the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St. Ipswich followed by the celebration of a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at our Lady of Hope Church, 1 Pine Swamp Rd, Ipswich. Interment will follow in St. Mary's cemetery in Beverly. Family and friends are cordially welcomed.
