Russell C. Tarr Obituary

Beverly - Russell C. Tarr, 91, of Beverly, died on December 30th after an extended illness and a long, happy life. He grew up in Wenham, MA and was the son of the late Raymond Kimball and Eunice Augusta (Cook) Tarr. Russ was the beloved husband of Patricia (Edwards) Tarr with whom he celebrated 69 years of marriage in October. Their loving relationship was an inspiration to all who had a chance to witness it.

Russ was a graduate of the Beverly High School, Class of 1952 and then studied greens keeping at the University of Massachusetts in Stockbridge. After working as a young man at Wenham Golf Club, Russ traveled around the country and worked in Miami and California, before returning home to marry Pat. He worked with his father-in-law, Benjamin Edwards, at Fassetts' Market in the Centerville neighborhood of Beverly and then worked with his brother, Raymond at North Shore Fire Appliances in Wenham. Russ realized a lifelong dream in 1982 when he took over the management of Wenham Country Club. He, together with Pat, invested many years of hard work and love into the golf course and took great pride in returning it to excellent condition and prosperity.

Russ enjoyed playing golf and spending time with family and friends in Massachusetts and in Florida. He was an excellent golfer and took great pleasure in teaching and playing golf with Pat and his children. He enjoyed golf outings with the many friends he amassed over the years and with a great love of learning he was constantly reading about history. Russ shared his love of life, his curiosity and his sense of humor with family and friends until his final days.

In addition to his wife, Russ is survived by his two daughters, Susan Christoffersen and her husband, Mark, and Sandra Burns of Beverly and by two sons, Norman Tarr and his wife Susan of Beverly, and Jonathan Tarr and his wife, Anna who live in Moscow, Russia. He also leaves 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and his sister, Norma (Tarr) Rousseau of Mendon, MA. Russ was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank and Raymond and by his sister, Janice and by his sons-in-law, Peter Belkas and John Burns.

His funeral service will be at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, on Friday, January 9th at 3 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
