Rosina M. (Marazino) Regis Obituary

Peabody - On February 4, 2026, after 111 years of living and learning, Rosina M. (Marazino) Regis bid farewell to her earthly life to continue on her spiritual journey and reunite with her husband Victor, the love of her life.

Rose leaves behind two daughters, Rosemarie Grillo of Topsfield and Elaine Regis (Marjorie Cacciola) of Beverly, two granddaughters, Karen LeBlanc (Chris) of Boxford and Paula Grillo (Dana Stewart) of Roslindale, three great-grandchildren, Jake, Matthew and Lindsay LeBlanc of Boxford, several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great-grandnieces and nephews.

Rose was born on November 28, 1914 to her parents, Onorio and Santina (DeGrandi) Marazino in Canton, MA, the first of four siblings. At the age of 5 her family moved back to Gattinara, Piemonte, Italy, in order for the children to become acquainted with their grandparents. Rose was schooled in Gattinara and as a young woman worked in textile mills operating four different machines at once. At 21 years old, she returned to America, by herself with very little money and no knowledge of the English language. Arriving in New York on April 1, 1936, she was greeted by family friends from New Jersey who helped her find her way to Medford, MA where her Godmother lived. She eventually came to settle there in her own apartment, worked in a paper box factory and went to school at night to learn English. While in her yard one Sunday afternoon in 1938, she caught the eye of Victor J. Regis who happened to be visiting his cousin who lived across the street. He told his cousin he wanted to meet her. After a two year courtship they married on June 15, 1940 at St. John the Baptist Church in Peabody and made their home there. They shared 39 years together, side by side, until Victor's passing in 1979.

Rose loved being a homemaker and raising their daughters. She was active for years as a Brownie, Girl Scout, and 4-H leader. Besides her daughters, she taught many girls the arts of cooking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, crafts, childcare and the appreciation of the world around them. In addition to her homemaking skills, she enjoyed rug hooking, dabbled in millinery, and crafted many beautiful Irish knit sweaters. A big believer in staying active both physically and mentally, gardening, both vegetable and flowers, was a summertime must. She bowled for years with the Top of the Mark women's morning league at Sunnyside Bowl until the age of 97. Card playing kept her mentally alert, primarily bid whist and cribbage, and when she was alone, solitaire. Rose and Victor played cribbage every night while watching television, and she continued playing it with her daughter, care givers and whoever wanted to shuffle and deal until she was 107. Now and then, a good local bingo night helped keep her mind sharp as she managed several cards in front of her.

Nonna, to her granddaughters, Bisnonna to her great-grandchildren, Rose took great pleasure in participating in their daily lives and upbringing. She had a very close relationship with them from infancy to today. Her greatest joy was caring for and spending time with them. Family came first. She instilled in us all the importance of a strong sense of family.

By the way, Rose survived two pandemics, both the Spanish Flu of 1918 and Covid-19!

In addition to her parents, Onorio (1939) and Santina (1964), her husband Victor (1979) and son-in-law Paul Grillo (2016), Rose was preceded in death by her siblings, Armida Regis (2011), Frank Marazino (2001) and Lucinda Imazio (2005).

We, her family, thank each and every caregiver who lovingly and skillfully cared for her during her final years; especially Olivia, Lucie, Ciatra, Carine, and Islande. We appreciate all that you do!

We say thank you to our loving, talented, independent, and generous mother. Mamma, buona sera, buona notte, buon riposa, felice risveglio. We love you immensely!
