Roland L. Singer, Jr. Obituary

Hamilton - Hamilton, MA-Roland Lloyd "Rollie" Singer Jr. passed away on April 30th with his beloved wife of 36 years, June (Holland) Singer, by his side.

Born in Ipswich, Massachusetts, he was the son of Roland and Diana (L'Italien) Singer. He graduated from Ipswich High School and began working in his family's business, Singer Masonry. He later joined a union, helping to build many schools and hospitals throughout the area, including the O'Malley School in Gloucester—structures that stand today as a testament to his strength, skill, and work ethic. For much of his life, he was self-employed through Roland L. Singer Masonry. He laid his last brick at eighty.

Rollie had a rare gift—every stranger became a friend. He connected with people from all walks of life and left a lasting impression wherever he went. A proud and devoted member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 46 years, he spoke often at meetings and dedicated himself to sponsoring, inspiring, and mentoring others. He never stopped working the program and was a source of strength and hope to many.

He found great joy in the outdoors and in life's simple pleasures. An avid fisherman, he loved Fuller Brook and spent many cherished years at his camp on Senebec Pond in Union, Maine, creating lasting memories with his grandchildren. He had a passion for horse racing, even owning a few racehorses, and especially enjoyed betting on the trotters at the Union Fair. Closer to home, he treasured his morning coffee groups starting at Henderson's in Wenham and moving to Burger King, where dear friendships were formed.

Rollie's best friends were his beloved Labs—Babe, Lucky, and Quila—and it brings comfort to imagine they were there to walk him home.

His favorite pastime was taking drives with June, exploring new places together. In recent months, he embraced life in Clearwater, Florida, zipping around on his golf cart, making new friends, and enjoying the view of the ocean. He was known for his booming voice, unmistakable laugh, quick wit, and signature sarcasm.

Of all the roles he held, the one he cherished most was "Bumpa." He was the proud grandfather of ten grandchildren: Samm Davidson, Peter Burnham II, Robert Burnham, Roland Singer IV, Brandon Bouchard, Nicole Bekem, Timothy Holland, Nicoline Holland, Sheridan Meade, and Jannelle Dumas; and twenty-two great-grandchildren: Rex, Rocky, Bizzy, Goldie, Ford, Scott II, Roland, Isabelle, Sadie, Daphne, Archer, Madison, Geo, Timothy, Milia, Christian, Beckham, McCoy, Jayla, Nicklous, Lexi, and Ava. He never missed a game, recital, or performance—often found on the sidelines, snacking and smiling, decked out in sunglasses and a visor, accompanied by his dog. He showed up, rain or shine; he cheered win or lose. He was a fixture in their lives.

He is survived by his loving wife, June; his children, Roland Singer III and his wife Corie Singer of Liberty, Maine, and Patricia Burnham and her husband Scott Burnham of Gloucester; his stepchildren, Tom Holland and his wife Nitza Holland of Haverhill, Cynthia Akers and her husband Robert Akers of Costa Mesa, California; his stepdaughter-in-law, Bunny Nimblett; and his sister, Sondra Marlene Martin of Amesbury, Massachusetts. He was predeceased by his brother, John Michael Singer, and his stepsons, Richard Nimblett and Roland Dumas.

Rollie will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

His memorial service will be held at the First Church, 1 Arbor Street, Wenham on Wednesday May 27 at 11am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
