Peabody - Peabody - Raymond G. Hopkins, 78, of Peabody, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Blueberry Hill Rehab Center in Beverly surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Suzanne I. (Gagnon) Hopkins with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.
Ray was born in Lynn on December 14, 1946, and was the son of the late Herbert I. and Avis A. (Trask) Hopkins. He grew up in Lynn and graduated from Lynn English High School. Soon after high school, Ray began working at Parker Brothers in Salem, a job he held for over 30 years. He was a maintenance mechanic and was known to be able to fix anything. He was a hard worker and was well liked and respected by his coworkers. It was at Parker Brothers that he met and fell in love with Sue. After Parker Brothers closed, Ray went on to work for Simkins Harvard Folding Box Company until he retired.
One of Ray's biggest hobbies was woodworking, and he crafted many birdhouses which his family and friends have today. He enjoyed music and played the guitar, banjo, and drums. He also loved sports, especially watching the Red Sox and Celtics, camping in Maine with family and friends, and spending time with his dog Buddy. He had a great sense of humor and loved making others laugh.
In addition to his wife Sue, Ray is survived by his daughter Nicole DiStefano and her husband Michael of Smithfield, NC; his siblings Herbert Hopkins Jr. and his wife, Ellen of Maine, Nancy Smith and her husband Hugh of Alabama, and Luanne Fernald and her husband William of Amesbury; his sister-in-law, Sandra Hopkins of Peabody; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Sadly, in addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his granddaughter Gabriella DiStefano and his siblings Wayne, Marione, and Karen.
A visitation will be held at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street, Peabody on Monday, July 7, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m. His funeral service will take place in the funeral home on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Peabody.
