Beverly, MA - Myron E. Hood, 84, of Beverly, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2020, after a period of declining health.
Born in Middleton, Mass., on October 2, 1935, he was the son of Clyde L. Hood and Brenda (Guptil) Hood. Myron attended schools in Middleton and Hamilton, Mass. He was a veteran of the Korean War who served with the United States Navy. Following his honorable discharge, he worked for the City of Beverly for 40 years, the last 25 as foreman of Cemeteries, of which his favorite slogan was "I am the last one to let you down."
Myron enjoyed camping, fishing, car racing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. He was an all-around good guy at heart and a great jokester who was always trying to "re-invent" the wheel.
Myron was actively involved, for many years, in the public works union before his retirement. In 1993, he ran for mayor for the city of Beverly and ran on the slogan "Hood would be good." He was very passionate with the politics of the city and attended many council meetings, never hesitant to voice his thoughts and ideas.
Myron is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda [Ventola] Hood; sons Scott M. Hood of Beverly, Eric E. Hood and his wife Andrea of Effingham, N.H.; grandsons Jeremy J. Hood and Justin N. Hood of Effingham, N.H. A twin brother, George Hood of Amesbury; brother-in-law John N.Ventola and his wife Cynthia of Beverly; along with several nieces and nephews. Myron is predeceased by his siblings Robert Hood of Conn., and Dorothy Hood, Phyllis Gilpatric and Polly Stone of Maine.
Myron will be sadly and deeply missed by family and friends.
A celebration of life visitation will be held on Sunday, Jan 19, from 12 to 2 p.m., at the Mackey Funeral Home, 128 S. Main St., Route 114, Middleton, MA. A special friend...remembering all our safaris while camping at The Bluffs . A train ride to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries with friends, Many nights out for dinner, Mt Washington ride to the top ,boating on the lake and all the many fishing trips David and Bob had together. Lots of fun and good memories during camp fires telling stories of life experiences with many friends there. Bob was always fixing things with his ingenuities! Quite an imagination! Love him and will miss him

I am a funeral director and had worked in Beverly for 22 years and had many opportunities to work with Myron. He was always a great person to talk with and always kind and professional. I missed him when he retired. He was excellent at his job.
