Michael G. Dearborn Obituary

Gloucester - Michael G. Dearborn, 76, of Gloucester, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 9, 2020.

Born in Lynn, on July 2, 1944, Michael was the son of the late George and Natalie (Anderson) Dearborn of Marblehead. He was a graduate of Marblehead High School, Class of 1962.

From a young age, Michael enjoyed spending time in nature - hunting, fishing, and especially being on the ocean. He was a member of the Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts, Sea Cadets, and rowed competitively as a member of the International Dory Race Committee in the early 1960s.

In February of 1966, Michael joined the United States Navy. He served aboard the USS Los Alamos (AFDB-7), earned the National Defense Service Medal, and was Honorably Discharged from service in February 1968.

The following year in 1969, at the age of twenty-four, Michael purchased his first lobster fishing boat and embarked upon what would become his lifelong passion as a self-employed commercial lobster fisherman. He continued to own and operate a lobster fishing business in Massachusetts for over 50 years. At the height of his career during the late 70s and early 80s, Michael was known as an innovator, pioneer, and industry leader. In addition to his experience on the water, Michael was an avid legislator, conservationist, and industry advocate. He served as a member of the Massachusetts Lobstermen's Association, the Atlantic Lobstermen's Co-Operative, and the MA Lobster Committee Management Team.

Above all, Michael's proudest accomplishment was that of being a father to his three children - Peter, Christopher, and Courtney - whom he loved dearly and spoke of in the highest regard.

Michael is survived by his three children; son, Peter and wife, Tamara Dearborn of Salem; son, Christopher and wife, Lisa Dearborn of Westport, Conn.; daughter, Courtney (Dearborn) Morse and partner, Dave O'Rourke of Rockport; four grandchildren, Reece (12), Sloane (8), Jameson (7), and Nolan (3); former spouse, Patricia (McCauley) Dearborn of Danvers; sister, Carolyn (Dearborn) King and her two children, Benjamin and Katherine King of Billerica. Michael also leaves behind cousins, distant relatives, and countless friends he considered family.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Michael's burial will be private. A celebration of his life will take place during the Spring/Summer of 2021(details forthcoming).

Donations in his memory may be made to www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org. Arrangements by Greely Funeral Home 212 Washington Street, Gloucester.
