Ipswich - With profound sadness, our family announces the passing of Mary Ann (Amatucci) Sheppard, 77, of Ipswich on December 19, 2025.
Mary was born in Beverly on Aug. 21, 1948. She attended parochial schools through 9th grade and then went on to graduate from Beverly High School and Burdett College.
Mary is lovingly survived by her three sons, Eric Hetnar and his wife Jennifer, Daniel Hetnar and his significant other Ann Renaud, and Colby Hetnar. In addition to her sons, Mary is survived by her brother James Amatucci and his wife Carol, her sisters, JoAnn Amatucci and her husband James Carey and Jeanne Vlahos and her husband Lewis. She was also a beloved "Auntie" to her nephews, Matt and James Amatucci, and Alex Vlahos and niece Jackie Vlahos.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Pauline and Alphonse Amatucci and her husband Walter Sheppard.
Her parents built the Ipswich Dairy Queen in 1961 where Mary worked alongside them and was often referred to as "Mary Dairy Queen". This started a working career that led to McMillan Labs, Soffron Bros., Ipswich Country Club, Lindenmeyr Munroe, Lahey Peabody and Three Lantern Marine. She would often tell her family and friends she loved each and every one of her jobs, where she formed many cherished friendships.
Mary's family meant the world to her and she often reminisced about her loving parents and idyllic childhood that included family gatherings and holidays with aunts, uncles and cousins. Mary continued that tradition with her own family by hosting family holidays and celebrations at her home in Ipswich.
Mary adored her sons and created many lasting memories, including a tradition started by her parents of annual summer vacations at Lake Winnipesaukee. As a devoted mom she supported her sons in BMX racing, athletics and bowling leagues.
Her Catholic faith was an important part of her life. She and her sons were devoted parishioners of Sacred Heart Parish in Ipswich, where they were altar servers and have many fond memories of Fr. Joseph Lukas.
Mary's family wishes to thank the staff at The Residence at Riverbend for their loving care, as well as Sharon Anderson and her team of angels, who were devoted to her in her final weeks.
Visiting hours will be Friday, December 26th from 5 to 7 p.m. at Morris Funeral Home, 45 No. Main St., Ipswich. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, December 27th at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist, Essex. A private burial will follow.
