Marilyn Cronan Obituary
Beverly - Marilyn has putted her last ball on the 18th hole and toasted her last sunset with a Wild Turkey! Marilyn was embraced into the Lord's arms at her home surrounded by her family on March 5, 2026.
Marilyn was born in Gladstone, Michigan, grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and graduated from Manistique High School in 1948. She entered Milwaukee County Hospital School of Nursing and upon graduation in 1952 she joined the Army Nurse Corps. While she was stationed in San Antonio, Texas she met her future husband Mark D. Cronan, Jr., who was also in the Army. Marilyn and Mark were married in Berlin, Germany in 1954 where she was stationed. Upon discharge from the Army, they settled in Beverly to raise their family. Over the years Marilyn worked as a nurse at Beverly Hospital, in private duty, and as a school nurse for Beverly Public Schools from 1967 to 1996. Her military service is recorded in the Women's Military Memorial at Arlington Cemetery. In retirement she served as a Parish Nurse at St Mary's Catholic Church, the President of the Cove Community Association and the President of the Board of Directors of the Girdler House. She also enjoyed gardening, sailing, skiing, sewing, traveling and especially golfing into her 90s. Well played Marilyn!
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Mark D. Cronan, Jr., her brother William Pistulka, and her sister Joann Williams. She is survived by her son Mark Cronan, his wife Nancy, her son David, his wife Debbie, and her daughter Ginny Lowe, her husband George. She was the proud and devoted Gramma to Kelsey Cronan, Ryan Cronan, Patrick Lowe, Sean Cronan, Stephen Cronan and Lindsey Lowe and affectionately known as GG to Cal Cronan, Finley Lowe, Ava Cronan and Cayden Cronan; and she leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, and wonderful friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The family is appreciative of the care given by Dr. Sarah Roderick, Dr. Jeremy Abramson and all the caring staff of Care Dimensions Hospice. Donations in Marilyn's memory may be made to Massachusetts General Hospital www.giving.massgeneral.org/donate/cancer-center, and Care Dimensions Hospice, at www.caredimensions.org/giving.
