Jean grew up in Salem, Mass., on Winter Island and at Osgood Park. After graduating from Salem High School, class of 1945, she attended Lynn Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1949. Jean's professional career began in 1965. She worked in the nursing home industry on the North Shore where she was a role model and mentored many young successful careers. She worked at Liberty Pavilion in Danvers, Blueberry Hill in Beverly, as well as nursing homes in Rockport and Gloucester, until her retirement in 1997.
Jean cherished her family and friends above anything else in her life and will be greatly missed. She was a warm, gentle, kind person who was loved by all those who knew her. When she was not with her family and friends, Jean enjoyed knitting, gardening, baking and listening to music. She also enjoyed making puzzles, playing bridge and cribbage, and playing carom. She spent hours playing games with her children and grandchildren. She volunteered at many local organizations including the House of Seven Gables, No. Shore Music Theater and Trustees of the Reservation. She gave hours and hours of her time to helping people who simply needed some of her time. She never said no.
The family of Jean Heffernan wishes to thank Hathorne Hill in Danvers for the outstanding and compassionate care they delivered to Jean.
