Salem - Laurel A. Gormley, 64, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born and raised in Salem, Massachusetts, Laurie was the cherished daughter of John L. Gormley and the late Collette Gormley. She graduated from Bishop Fenwick High School before earning a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the Boston College Carroll School of Management. She later received her MBA from Babson College and earned the prestigious Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, reflecting her exceptional intellect and discipline.
Laurie began her career at Bank of Boston in 1984 and went on to enjoy a distinguished career in investment management. She retired from Adage Capital Management in 2019 after decades of success and leadership in the investment industry.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Laurie will be remembered for her quick wit, infectious sense of humor, generosity, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. She was an avid Boston sports fan who rarely missed cheering on the Red Sox, Celtics, or Patriots. She found great joy in traveling, spending time with family and friends, enjoying the theater, relaxing at the beach, and embracing life with enthusiasm. Whether at work or at play, Laurie gave her whole heart to everything she did.
Laurie is survived by her devoted father, John L. Gormley of Salem, Massachusetts, and Chevy Chase, Maryland; her loving sister and brother-in-law, Maureen Gormley and Jim Kinkead of Bethesda, Maryland; and her beloved nieces, Alayna and Kayla Kinkead. She was predeceased by her beloved mother, Collette Gormley.
To those who knew her best, Laurie was fearless in the face of adversity, fiercely loyal to the people she loved, and gifted with a wit that could light up any room. She lived fully, laughed often, and leaves behind a legacy of courage, generosity, and enduring love.
