Topsfield - Mr. Kenneth A. Moser, 88, of Topsfield, beloved husband of the late Shirley (Mitchell) Moser, died Sunday, October 6, 2019, at Masconomet Healthcare in Topsfield, Mass.

Born in Steubenville, Ohio, Ken was the son of the late Roy E. and Rebecca S. (Sticker) Moser. He was raised and educated in Amherst, Mass., and was a graduate of Amherst High School class of 1949. Ken then continued his education, receiving his Engineering Degree from the University of Massachusetts class of 1953. More importantly, that same year he married Shirley, the love of his life, whom he had begun dating after she invited him to a Sadie Hawkins dance.

After his graduation and wedding, Ken served proudly in the United States Air Force. For a time he was stationed at the Thule Air Base in Greenland, where he lived beneath the ice cap and maintained radar systems that were a critical component of the Distant Early Warning Line. Following his honorable discharge from the service, Ken went on to enjoy a 38-year career building and testing jet engines in the Aircraft Division of General Electric in Lynn, Mass.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Ken was an eager and enthusiastic family leader in partnership with Shirley. He placed great emphasis on spending one's time wisely, and urged his children to both work hard and play hard. Ken was an excellent role model in this regard as he was strongly devoted to his career, but would also spend countless hours hiking, boating, fishing, pulling lobster traps, and attending his kids' sporting events. Although he encouraged his kids to excel in academics, he was also fond of quoting the Canadian writer Grant Allen and reminding them not to let their schoolwork interfere with their education.

A resident of the Town of Topsfield for many years, Ken was a member and Deacon of the Congregational Church of Topsfield. He was also a member of the American Legion Amaral Bailey Post 113 of Manchester-by-the-Sea, and was an active resident of the Bakers Island community where he and his family enjoyed many summers. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and many friends.

Surviving Ken is his daughter, Emily M. Bryant of Portsmouth, N.H.; his sons, Andrew K. Moser and his partner Michelle Garrow of Topsfield, Mass., Stephen P. Moser and his wife Jenna of Hamden, Maine, Gary T. Moser and his wife Patricia of Orlando, Fla., and David J. Moser and his wife Rebecca of Iowa City, Iowa; his sister, Marilyn Barstow and her husband Arthur of East Longmeadow, Mass.; his 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Ken's memorial service will be held at the Congregational Church of Topsfield on Saturday, November 16, 2019, at 12 p.m. (noon) with a reception to follow at the nearby Emerson Center. Relatives and friends are invited. Assisting the family with the arrangements is the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St. (Route 62), Danvers, MA. Ken was a giving person and in that spirit, in lieu of flowers please consider making a contribution to the charitable cause of your choice in his memory.
