Katie was born on May 15, 1942, in Lynn, to John and Margaret Hanly (Horgan). She grew up on Eastern Avenue and graduated from Saint Mary's High School in 1959 and went to Catherine Labouré School of Nursing, graduating in 1962.
Katie married John Briggs in 1964 and settled in Lynn. Katie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She was an inductee into the Saint Mary's Hall of Fame and worked as an RN at Union Hospital for over 30 years and was a communicant of St. Pius Church for over 55 years.
Katie could always be found at an ice rink, a baseball field, a church sacrament event, a basketball court, a soccer field, gymnastics meet or a lacrosse field. She was fiercely devoted to her children and grandchildren and was there on every occasion. She was the Gummy Grammy of the neighborhood and always had snacks ready to go.
Katie had a smile and a laugh that would light up the room. The family tale was that Katie knew someone no matter where she went. Locally she always bumped into friends, and went as far as Washington DC, New York City, Florida and abroad.
Katie is survived by her brother Peter Hanly and sister-in-law Kathy Hanly (Aloia). Her children Megan Gibeau (Briggs), Andrew and daughter-in-law Kristen Briggs (Noren). She will forever be celebrated by her three grandchildren Caitryn Gibeau, John Briggs and Zoey Briggs.
