Beverly - Kathleen D. "Kathy" Symonds, age 75, died February 10, 2020 at the Kaplan Hospice House.
Born and raised in Beverly to the late George and Nilda (Madruga) Peeples.
She graduated Beverly High School in 1962 and received her Bachelor's Degree at Plymouth State College in 1966. She received her Master's Degree at Salem State University.
She got "paid to play games" as a gym teacher for the Beverly School system for over thirty years. She was inducted into the Beverly Hall of Fame in Basketball. She was a loyal fan of all Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox. She always looked forward to spending time with her grandchildren. She was also an avid music lover and a collector of Elvis memorabilia. She was known for her quick wit, infectious smile, and her kind and compassionate spirit.
She is survived by her two sons, Michael Symonds of Beverly, Brian Symonds and his wife Katie of Peabody; a sister, Norma Flowers of Florida; a cousin, Sharon Hitchcock of Gloucester; and granddaughters, Brianna and Sophia.
A service will be held in the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held prior from 9 to 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to American Lung Association or Kaplan House c/o Care Dimensions 75 Sylvan St, Suite b-102 Danvers, MA 01923. From seeing you dressed as a nun for Halloween at Memorial, to tailgating at Jimmy Buffett concerts, to the Phys Ed games you had us play in North Conway, to your having us over to your house just to hang out on Fridays...I have so many cherished memories of being in your company. I am so grateful to whomever sent you to teach at Memorial because I most certainly would have missed out on getting to know you otherwise. I miss you already, my friend...
