Born and raised in Beverly, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Catherine (Duest) Carson. She was educated in Beverly and received her associate's degree from North Shore Community College.
Josephine worked as a nursing assistant, running the Fast Track at Salem Hospital for many years until her retirement. After she retired, she worked as a cashier at Crosby's Market in Marblehead, where she loved socializing with her customers. In her younger years she worked in the Lynn shoe factories, which is where she met her husband, Benny. She was active at the senior center in Salem. She and her husband loved to travel to Las Vegas and Aruba, and they spent their winters in Lauderdale by the Sea, Florida. She was a cub scout leader and also taught cooking and sewing to the girl scouts. Josephine was an animal lover, especially dogs. She loved to shop and participate in the many activities, especially bingo, at Sunrise at Gardner Park, where she had resided for the past three years. Her greatest joy was spending time with her loving and devoted family.
She is survived by her loving children, Daniel D'Amato and his wife, Shirley of Raymond, NH, Tina Marie Zukowski and her husband, Lou of Salem, and Laurie and her husband Robert Callen of Norwood; four beloved grandchildren, Angela Green, Kristin Trask, Anthony D'Amato, and Kacie Foss; eight adored great-grandchildren; Winter, Finn, Griffin, Murphy, Benjamin, Warren, Jameson and Cohen; as well as one on the way. She was the sister of the late June Silva and Albert Carson, Jr.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the Staff and all her friends at Sunrise at Gardner Park and Care Dimensions for the tremendous care given to Josephine and her family.
