Las Vegas, NV - John E. "Jack" Barnes, formerly of Peabody, MA, born April 27, 1945, passed away on April 17, 2026, in Las Vegas, NV, just days before his 81st birthday.

Born to Sydney C. Barnes Sr. and Mary (Ginnetty) Barnes, Jack was one of six siblings.

Jack is survived by his daughter Melissa (Barnes) Arager and her husband Scott; stepson Charles Umanita and wife Lorie; grandchildren Robert Umanita (Maria), Shannon Rogers (Jake), Danielle, and Claudia Umanita; and great-grandchildren Claire, Berton, Harrison Rogers, and Luna Umanita. He was predeceased by stepson Robert Umanita (wife Sandra). Jack's siblings include Christine (William Dunn), Charlie (Susan Barnes), and Marylou (Mark Bartkiewicz) and many nieces, nephews and close friends. He was predeceased by siblings Harold and Sydney "Rusty" Barnes Jr.

Jack was devoted to beloved wife of 34 years, Rose (Santagate) Barnes who passed in 2016, to whom his devotion was unwavering and the strength of thier bond remained an anchor in his life, and his late first wife, Phyllis (Marchesini) Barnes, mother to Melissa.

A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Jack served during the Vietnam era from 1963 to 1967. After his service, he built a distinguished career with GTE and Verizon, rising from electrician to Manager of Safety. His work took him from Massachusetts to Nevada, where he contributed to GTE's pioneering lithium battery facility, supporting early military and aerospace technology. After retiring from Verizon, Jack enjoyed a second career as a realtor in Las Vegas.

Jack's kindness, steady presence, and quiet strength shaped his family and friends. He made others feel welcomed and deeply valued. His warmth, humor, and loyalty enriched the lives of all who knew him. His family is grateful for the time shared and the love he gave so freely.

Jack's passions included family, friends, Elvis Presley, New England seafood, Chinese food, golf, and cheering for the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, and Vegas Golden Knights.

A graveside service will be held at Puritan Lawn Cemetery in Peabody, MA, on June 26, 2026, at 1 p.m.
