Ipswich - JoAnn Ewing, affectionately known as "JoJo" to just about everyone who knew her, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2025, surrounded by her loving family after a short but courageous battle with dementia. She was 83 years young, forever the life of the party, and undoubtedly cracking one last joke on her way out.
JoAnn was predeceased by the love of her life, David Ewing, in 1988. They met at Ipswich High School and built a life filled with laughter and adventure. Upon marrying into the Ewing family, JoAnn became a cherished part of every family function, becoming a staple at gatherings and celebrations.
She is survived by her sons, Thomas and David; her beloved grandchildren, Katrina, Paul, and Emmy; her dear sister, Florence; and her sister-in-law, Lynda. She was predeceased by her grandson, Steven, whom she missed dearly. JoAnn was also the fun-loving "Aunt JoJo" to her many nieces and nephews.
JoAnn grew up in Buffalo, NY, and never missed an opportunity to reminisce about her time there, though Ipswich became her true home. Whether hosting family and friends at her house on Masconomet Road or keeping everyone entertained with her antics, she was a natural at bringing people together. She loved nothing more than basking in the sun at Crane Beach, enjoying a good meal at the Pub, and cruising around town in her signature red Volkswagen Beetle—windows down, music up, and probably waving dramatically at someone she knew.
One thing about JoJo—she loved Elvis Presley. And if you didn't know that within five minutes of meeting her, you weren't paying attention. Her love for Elvis was just one more thing that made her unforgettable.
JoJo also had a flair for fashion. She never missed an opportunity to dress up, accessorize, and make an entrance. Whether it was a family gathering, a night out, or just a trip to the store, she was always put together: hair styled, outfit on point, and jewelry that sparkled just as much as she did. She believed that every day was a special occasion and that looking your best was just another way to bring joy into the world.
You never knew what was going to come out of JoJo's mouth—whether it would shock you or make you laugh, or both. She had an infectious spirit, a sharp wit, and a knack for making any occasion feel like a celebration. She was a firm believer that dessert should always come first, laughter was the best medicine, and that no gathering was complete without a little bit of storytelling—especially if she was at the center of it.
A regular member of Ascension Memorial Church in Ipswich, JoJo's faith was an integral part of her life.
Her legacy is one of love, humor, and an unshakable zest for life. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. In honor of JoJo, have a laugh, raise a glass, play some Elvis, and put on your best outfit.
