Beverly - Jay Weston Clark passed away on April 5, 2025, after a lengthy illness.
Jay joins his parents, Dr. Frank W. Clark and Elizabeth MacMurtry Clark, in eternal peace.
He is survived by his son, Robert Lyman Clark, Robert's fiancée, Alanna Birner, and their daughter, Eloise Clark. He is also survived by his former spouse, Andrea Young Clark.
Jay is additionally survived by his siblings, Cynthia C. Schwartz and her husband, James; Elizabeth C. Morris; and Dr. Scott B. Clark and his wife Laura.
Jay graduated from Beverly High School in 1970. He continued his education at Northeastern University as a co‑op student in Civil Engineering, graduating with honors in 1975. One of his first co‑op positions was with the Engineering Department for the Town of Danvers. After graduating from Northeastern, Jay joined Chi Epsilon, a national honor society for civil engineers.
He worked for 11 years at LEA Engineers—Building Design and Environmental Engineering—on Kneeland Street in Boston, MA. After moving to Amesbury, MA, he began working at Americold Cold Storage in Gloucester, MA. This position took him around the country to solve engineering challenges at a variety of cold‑storage facilities, from frozen fish in Gloucester to citrus fruit in Tampa and blueberries in the Midwest. He often spoke about visiting Mt. St. Helens while working at a warehouse in Washington State. Later in his career, Jay worked for FEMA and was deployed several times to Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
There was nothing Jay loved more than a sea breeze. He was a longtime member of the Jubilee Yacht Club. He often sailed his father's boat, the Summer Thing, off the Beverly coast. Jay later acquired an Etchell, BITE 1, and loved sailing solo from his Beverly mooring. He obtained his captain's license and drove the launch at the Jubilee Yacht Club and at the Salem Willows Yacht Club. There is no doubt the sea was where Jay most wanted to be.
"When I was a boy, my bed was my pirate ship that sailed the seven seas; my sheets were the silvery sails that fluttered in the breeze." — Author UK Anonymous
Jay had another great love: his cats—Basil, Thyme, Sage, Milo, Willow, and Cleopatra.
