Salem - James A. Quinlivan, 94, of Salem, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Judith A. (Gioioso) Quinlivan with whom he shared well over 60 years of marriage.
Jim was born on January 11, 1932, in Tubber Lissey Casey, County Clare, Ireland and was the son of the late Patrick and Norah (Monahan) Quinlivan. He grew up in Ireland before moving to the United States when he was 15 years old. He settled in Salem and graduated from Salem High School.
Jim's first job was working as a caddy at Salem Country Club, which ignited his love of golf. He then enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served our country during the Korean War. Jim was a longtime avid golfer at Gannon and Kelly Greens (Tony C's), where he made many lifelong and loyal friends. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife Judy. He loved seeing different parts of the world and meeting new people. His favorite adventure was visiting Alaska. In his retirement, Jim loved gardening and passed on this love to his children and grandchildren.
Above all, Jim's greatest love was his family. He was a loving husband, a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He would often say that the most important things in his life were family, sunshine, and friends. Speaking of friends, he had many of them and he considered them to be part of his family. He was a friend of Bill W. and helped countless people in their journey towards wellness. Jim also was involved with starting an organization known as Helping Hand which helped disabled children, adults, and people in need. Jim will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
