NEWBURYPORT - Irna J. (Calichman) Plotkin passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026 at Salem Hospital. Irna was 79. Born and brought up in Revere, Irna was the loving daughter of Dave and Evelyn Calichman, and cherished sister of Harvey Calichman, and a loving mother of twins Rachael Devine and Robin Frans (all deceased). Irna loved her nephews and niece, and her many friends. Irna was passionate about being a "Reverite", and was particularly close to her cousins, who grew up together within a couple of blocks of each other, and who all mourn her passing. Irna, later in life, developed a special bond with her dear friend Michael Camilleri, and they spent many hours together giving each other comfort and joy. A graduate of Revere High School, Irna was able to use her significant skills and intelligence as the executive administrative asst. for the Deer Island Sewage Treatment Project, and found great success there until 2 strokes rendered her unable to continue. Irna spent the last years of her life at the Pilgrim House in Peabody, whose care and compassion were much appreciated. Irna also had an adventurous spirit, and was not unfamiliar with Wonderland and other dog tracks, helping to breed and race greyhounds through much of her life. The family would like to give special thanks for the love and care shown Irna by her best friend Tina Bagnera and sister-in-law Jan Calichman. A graveside service is planned for the spring.
