Helen (Simon) Thompson

Beverly - Helen Thompson, 91, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, surrounded by her family at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, MA.
Helen was born in Pawtucket, R.I., in a section of the city which was home to many first-generation immigrants. She adored her mother and father, Michael and Adelle "Ida" Simon (Yuenis) and fondly remembers the joy of being part of a large, loving Lebanese family.
Helen met the love of her life, Dick with whom they shared 71 years of marriage. They had a love story like no other and were blessed with their son, Michael Ross and daughters, Kimberle Joi and Lee Ann. She raised her children with deep love and faith and was an active member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Beverly, MA.
Helen was an avid tennis player, swimmer, and beach goer. She was known for being a very creative person, a writer of poetry, master of calligraphy. She played the piano and loved to sing. Her home was always filled with music.
Helen's life was marked by her welcoming and loving demeanor, her laughter and her ability to engage in intellectual banter and debate. Her wisdom, wit, and warmth made her a source of joy for her family and friends.
Helen is survived by her loving children, Michael Thompson; Kimberle McGarry and her husband James of Hamilton, MA; and Lee Ann Thompson and her husband Kenneth Sherman of Beverly, MA and her sister Arlena Tarin and husband Phil of Newport Beach, CA. Helen was the proud grandmother of five grandchildren who were the light of her life, Michael Thompson, Ryan Thompson, Caroline McGarry, Shane Sherman Thompson, and Sean Sherman Thompson. She was predeceased by her sisters, Alice Travers, Yvonne Simon, Laurice Ryan and Lee Giuliano and her bothers George Simon, Alfred Simon and Ray Simon. Helen leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Her family is thankful to the caregivers who helped make her last year joyful and comfortable, particularly those at the Residence at Riverbend in Ipswich, especially Anthony, Marni, Janeen, Sugeidy, Solange, Wendy, Betty, Ellen, Yuster and Alexa. Their love and compassion made a world of difference especially when adjusting to life without her husband.
Helen's services will be private on Tuesday, June 17. A Celebration of Life will be held at 27 Old Planters Road in Beverly on Saturday, July 19 at 1 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Contributions may be made in Helen's name to Perkins School for the Blind, 175 North Beacon Street, Watertown, MA 02472. Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly. Plant a tree: How does it work

When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.

An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.

After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.

Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.
