Helaine Berg Obituary

Salem - Salem - Helaine Berg, a devoted nurse, loving mother, and fierce advocate, passed away on May 14, 2025, at the age of 69.

Born in Salem to the late Roy and Florence (Aronson) Gelin, Helaine dedicated her life to caring for others with extraordinary heart and determination. As a registered nurse for over 30 years, beginning in 1989, she poured herself into her work, often going far beyond her scheduled hours—working nights, weekends, and holidays—to ensure her patients received the care they needed. Her devotion extended beyond the workplace, as she regularly delivered food and prepared meals for those in need during Thanksgiving and Christmas, offering comfort and kindness when it was needed most.

Helaine was a passionate and unwavering advocate for her son, Noah, ensuring he received the very best care and support throughout his school years and during times of medical need. She was also active in Guatemalan adoption communities when Noah was younger, sharing her knowledge and experience to support others on similar journeys.

With a sharp tongue and an even sharper mind, Helaine never left you guessing where you stood with her. Her honesty was a gift—grounded in love, loyalty, and a deep desire to protect those she cared about. She was always working, always giving, and always available to those in need, like a doctor on call 24/7.

Helaine is survived by her beloved husband, Daniel Berg; her devoted son, Noah Berg; her siblings, Roberta Gelin, Dana Gelin, and Michael Gelin; and her cherished dogs, Celestia and Coco. She also leaves behind many cousins and dear friends whose lives she touched with her strength, humor, and unwavering kindness.

A funeral service for Helaine will be held on Monday, May 19, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Temple Sinai, 1 Community Rd, Marblehead, MA 01945, with interment to follow at Temple Sinai Cemetery, 49 Buxton Road, Danvers, MA 01923.
