Peabody - Gregg S. Whitney, beloved husband of the late F. Marianne (Smith Leonard) Whitney, passed away on Thursday, March 6th, 2025. Born in Springfield, Mass, on June 10, 1927, he is the loving son of the late Winthrop B. and Ruth (Stowell) Whitney.

Gregg grew up in Springfield and attended and graduated from Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, NH. He was a United States Navy Veteran, having enlisted after high school. He then attended and graduated from Boston University with a degree in Engineering. Gregg worked for many years for General Electric Company and at the age of 62 retired.

Gregg was a talented woodworker and had a nice wood shop in his home. He was an avid outdoorsman and you could often find him hiking and camping. His greatest joy came from his family. Gregg and his wife Marianne shared a deep love for one another. They had many wonderful years filled with great times, especially square dancing and on the lake in New Hampshire. Gregg was also a 70 year member of the Masonic Lodge in Reading.

He was a loving and devoted father, husband, grandpa, great grandpa and friend. Gregg will be deeply missed by his loving family and many friends.

Devoted father of Mark S. Whitney and his wife Robbie of Springvale, Maine, Linda B. Ledoux and her late husband Steven D. Ledoux of North Waterboro, Maine and Mark Leonard and his wife Martha of Belmont, New Hampshire. Cherished Grandpa of Melissa Doiron and her husband Travis of Berwick, Maine, Robyn Trott and her husband Chuck of Sanford, Maine, Christopher Whitney of Alton Bay, New Hampshire, Rachel DesJardins of Sanford, Maine, Kerri DesJardins of Westbrook, Maine, Samantha DesJardins of Saco, Maine, Heather Potwin and her husband David of Singapore and Kristen Leonard of Sterling, Mass. Great Grandpa of Izabella, Alex, Jacob, Dylan, Cameron, Jocelyn, Madeline, Jack, Lydia, Lily, Henry, Zoe and Eve.

Family and friends are cordially invited to visiting hours for Gregg at the Cota Funeral Home, 335 Park St., North Reading (Corner of Park St. and Rt. 28 at the Reading Line) on Sunday, March 23rd, 2025 from 2 to 5pm.


At the conclusion of visitation, at 5pm, a Prayer Service to celebrate Gregg will be held. All are invited to join.


Burial to be held privately in Springfield Cemetery, Springfield, Mass.
