Ipswich - Ipswich - Gilles Jean-Charles Tremblay, 95, a longtime resident of Ipswich, left to join his wife of 69 years on Wednesday November 13, 2024, 22 days after being separated and 9 days after celebrating her life surrounded by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
Gilles spent most of his life in Ipswich, moving to the town as a child and raising his own family in a home he worked to convert from a barn with his father. Gilles' devotion to his wife Therese was evident in their later years as Gilles sold their beloved home in 2018 when it was clear that Therese's dementia was too advanced to return home, and then agreed to move out of Ipswich to an assisted living facility when her condition further advanced. When Therese was admitted to a nursing home in 2023, Gilles visited her nearly daily to sit by her side.
Gilles loved to travel and he and his wife were able to see most of the country and much of the world in their retirement, often traveling with the Ipswich Council on Aging. He was a quiet man who in his later years would often sit on the couch at family gatherings, just watching as his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren ran around opening presents, searching for Easter eggs, or having loud conversations about the Patriots or Red Sox. Gilles and Therese made sure to be at every high school or college graduation, they attended National Honor's Society inductions, and saw their granddaughter be sworn into the Massachusetts Bar. Gilles was proud to meet 10 great-grandchildren and see several of his grandchildren be married (until he and Therese were unable to travel).
Gilles was predeceased by his wife, Therese Tremblay on October 22, 2024. He is survived by his four children: Louise Beckett and her husband Merrill of Byfield, MA; Marc Tremblay and his wife Susan of Pascoag, RI; Denise Ziemlak and her husband David of Longmont, CO; and Philip Tremblay and his wife of Jennifer of Safety Harbor, FL; eleven grandchildren: Matthew Beckett and his wife Amelia of Medford, MA; Stephen Tremblay and his wife Alison of Purvis, MS; Christine Maguire and her husband Patrick of Georgetown, MA, John Gregg Beckett, and his wife Lynsey of Arvada, CO; Nicole Gallifrey and her husband Michael of Longmont, CO; David Ziemlak, Jr. of Cape Canaveral, FL; Bradford Tremblay of Waltham, MA; Kenneth Tremblay of Orlando, FL; and Natalie Tremblay of Safety Harbor, FL, Justin Picard and his wife Tara of Warwick, RI, Heather Salera and her husband Kevin of Douglas, MA; as well as ten great-grandchildren: Abigail, Carolina, Liam, Evelyn, Beckett, Willoughby, Lowell, Jakob, Camryn, and Kailey.
Gilles is also predeceased by his two sisters, Francine (Tremblay) Stewart in 2016, and Joanne Tremblay on November 1, 2024.
Funeral Services for Gilles will be on Saturday November 23, 2024 at 10am at Our Lady of Hope Parish Church, 1 Pineswamp Road, Ipswich, MA. A private burial service will be held at a later date.
