Gerlinde U. Baedita

Peabody - Gerlinde Elfriede (Urban) Baedita, 98, of Peabody, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Sunrise at Gardner Park surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Ilie Baedita.
Gerlinde was born on February 2, 1927, in Breslau, Germany and was the cherished daughter of the late Fritz Johan and Margareta (Wabner) Urban. She spent much of her early life in Hamburg, Germany before immigrating at 30 years old.
Gerlinde met her husband Ilie at the International Institute in Boston, and they spent 55 years of marriage together. They were married on Christmas Eve in 1960. Gerlinde worked for many years as an account supervisor for API in Wakefield. Prior to that she worked at Houghton Mifflin Co. and at Merchants Warren National Bank in Salem. She was well-liked and respected by her coworkers for her strong work ethic and kind spirit.
Gerlinde was active in the Torigian Senior Center where she was involved in the hug-a-bear program. She enjoyed taking walks, listening to classical music, gardening, knitting, doing puzzles, and reading. She also loved going out to eat with family and friends where she would enjoy a cosmopolitan martini with her lobster roll or sushi. At Sunrise at Gardner Park, she was a fixture at bingo and card games.
Gerlinde was a true world traveler who took many trips with Ilie. They travelled all over the United States, especially enjoying the National Parks and spending winters in Naples, Florida. They embarked on many cruises including Alaska and Hawaii and visited places such as Italy, Switzerland, Spain, and Romania. One of her favorite places was Bad Bevensen in Germany.
Above all else, her greatest love was her family. She truly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was blessed to be able to welcome her great-granddaughter. Gerlinde leaves a legacy of love and caring for her family. She will be remembered by all who knew and loved her for her witty sense of humor, her positive outlook, and her honest and direct approach to people.
Gerlinde is survived by her daughter, Monica Baedita Broughton of Peabody; her son Peter Baedita and wife Sheila of Miami Shores, FL; her grandchildren, Christina, Nicholas and wife Emily, and Sarah Broughton; her great-granddaughter, Eloise; her brother Rainer Urban and his wife Carla of Germany; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her brother Hildmar and wife, Elizabeth.
Services for Gerlinde will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Torigian Senior Center by visiting www.peabodycoa.org.
