Geraldine E. Orphanos Obituary

Lynn - Geraldine Emma (Tyrel) Orphanos, age 103, of Lynn, died on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Salem Hospital, after losing a battle with pneumonia. She was the devoted wife of the late James C. Orphanos, with whom she shared over 34 years of marriage. Born in Bellows Falls, Vermont, in 1922, she was the daughter of the late Jessie (Murray) and William Bryant Tyrel. She was raised in Exeter, New Hampshire and attended the Robinson Female Seminary a one room schoolhouse. Gerry worked many jobs throughout her life. She was a stitcher at United Shoe Factory in Epping, NH, and helped her husband at the family Glenmere Fish Market on Maple St in Lynn. She also worked at the Factory Shoe Outlet, Mort's Shoe, and Rich's Department Store. Gerry was a kind and loving person who had numerous loved ones calling her their second mother. She loved gatherings with family and friends and often did silly things to be the life of the party. She enjoyed ceramics, quilting, cooking and her backyard swimming pool. She was an avid sewer, often making her mother's clothes and was an avid reader. She would not hesitate to help a stranger in need.

Geraldine is survived by her loving children, Tyra and Larry Oak of Lynn and Charles J. and Roxanne Orphanos of Peabody; her grandchildren, Andrew J. Orphanos, Heather and Jay Michonski, and Tayla and Nick Solomon; and her many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and their children. Gerry was predeceased by her brother Richard "Bud" Tyrel, and sister Ora Beane.
