Emily R. Mullin Obituary

Gloucester - Emily R. (Mullin) Smith passed away unexpectedly at her Gloucester home on April 6, 2022, after a long illness. She was born on July 25, 1983, in Danvers, MA, and attended Danvers Schools. She worked as an agent at Cambece Law prior to her illness.

She had a smile and laugh that could light up a room, whether in her home or in the hospital, and her sense of humor was renowned. Her dream was to get well and become a foster parent. Emily's heart was so big and she cared about everyone more than herself. Her nephew CJ was the love of her life.

Emily never backed down from a political or social justice argument, and she was usually right. She loved the beach, especially her summer vacations at Hampton Beach with all the Mullin girls, and she loved her trips to the Crane Estate where she and her husband enjoyed watching the local wildlife. Anyone who knew Emily, knew her passion for Baby Yoda. Emily was predeceased by her father James Mullin; her infant son Asher; and grandparents Fred and Lorraine Nastek.

She is survived by her husband Joel Smith; her mother Beth and husband Joe DeSousa; sister Jessie and husband Christos Brennan and their son Christos James; her sister Anna Mullin; and her aunt Norma and uncle Tom Hehir, and cousins, Tom and Martin.

There will be a private memorial for family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rise Above Foundation, a Massachusetts nonprofit that provides foster kids with enriching opportunities and experiences, P.O. Box 174, Northbridge, MA 01534.

Arrangements are by the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St. Gloucester, MA. Online condolences may be given at:
