South Hamilton - Emily N. (Nickerson) Cook, 89, passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2025 with family by her side. Born in Beverly on December 27, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Kathryn (Lamson) Nickerson.

Emily is survived by her three children and their spouses: Thomas and Ann Cook of Beverly, Stephen Cook and Mary, and Cynthia and Lawrence Doty of Hamilton. She is also survived by her five grandchildren: Matthew and his wife Rebecca Cook, MacKenzie Cook, Jennifer Cook and her fiancé Jacob Harting, Kasey Cook, and Carolyn and her husband Robert Kent; as well as several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Emily is also survived by her sister, Barbara Rodden of Maine, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, John Nickerson formerly of Chelmsford, MA.

Emily grew up in Hamilton, where she resided for most of her life. During World War II, she and her family lived for a time in South Boston before returning to Hamilton when she was in the sixth grade. She cherished spending her childhood summers in Kennebunk at her grandparents' farm. Emily graduated from Hamilton High School with the Class of 1953 and, in 1957, became a Registered Nurse after completing her training at the Salem Hospital School of Nursing.

Later that same year, she married Charles R. Cook. Emily enjoyed a nursing career that spanned more than 40 years, primarily at Salem Hospital, with time also spent working in Middlebury, VT, Ipswich, and Beverly, before retiring in 2000. She served as a camp nurse for several summers at Norshoco Boy Scout Camp, Indian Pond in New Hampshire, and for one season at Iron Rail in Wenham. Emily was an active adult leader and volunteer in Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Girl Scouts.

Emily was an avid sports fan, following local teams and high school marching bands, and later supporting her grandchildren throughout their high school and college athletic careers. She treasured the camaraderie of their many teammates and families and was affectionately known as "Nana" or "Nans" to many. Her family and friends were central to her life. She was active in the Hamilton Historical Society and the Senior Center, and she volunteered in the Winthrop School library. Emily was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church in Hamilton.
