Elizabeth Lorraine (McDonald) Sala, age 98, died peacefully on Tuesday evening, November 8, at Peabody Glen - Care One Nursing Center in Peabody surrounded by her family after a long period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of the late Guido Sala, who died in 2008.

She was born in Somerville, in August 1918, one of five and the last surviving child of the late Owen and Margaret (MacCrae) McDonald, and raised in Somerville, where she graduated from Somerville High School. While raising her family she lived in Tewksbury from the 1950s until retiring to Boynton Beach in Florida in 1982.

She leaves two daughters, Claire Sala Ayer and her partner, John Despic of South Hamilton, Mass., and Christine M. (Nagle) McCusker and her husband, John E. McCusker of Tewksbury; five grandchildren, Alana Nagle of Cambridge, Stephanie Emmens of Connecticut, Tim Ayer of Colorado, Tony Sala of Tewksbury, Tiffani Abbott of Windham, N.H.; three great-grandchildren, Gwen, Lilliana, and Alaina; a sister-in-law, Mary Miceli of Watertown, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Michael R. Sala; her brothers, Maurice McDonald, Vincent McDonald, Howard McDonald; and sister, Ruth McDonald.

Visiting hours Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Route 38), Tewksbury Center, ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Nov. 12, at 10 a.m. in St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St. (Route 38), Tewksbury. Interment will be in Tewksbury Cemetery.
