Ipswich - Eleanor (Ellie) Marie Bernard, of Beverly, Massachusetts passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on February 28, 2025. Ellie was born on September 8, 1934, in Ipswich, Massachusetts to the late Philip J. Bernard Sr. and Evelyn P. (Dort) Bernard where she attended Saint Stanislaus School and graduated from Ipswich High School.
In addition to having a successful career at Compugraphic (AGFA) in Wilmington, Ellie was an incredible mother to her three sons, Barry, Michael, and Philip Neely; loving "Auntie Ellie" to her 14 nieces and nephews; and a wonderful sister, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. Ellie's hobbies included a tremendous love of line dancing which she shared with her mother, Evelyn. She was a proud member of Jo Bridges' line dancers and enjoyed their annual trips to the Catskills.
Ellie could often be found listening to Elvis Presley and Country-Western music or playing Mahjong with her friends at the Peabody Senior Center. She valued education and stressed the importance of learning and hard work to her children and grandchildren. Ellie was kind, funny, and hard working. However, her most endearing quality was her pure heart. She had the innate ability to befriend anyone instantaneously, seeing the good in everything and everyone, and exemplifying the importance of being kind to others. She strongly aligned herself with the Catholic faith, valuing the lessons of the church, watching Mass on television and praying the Rosary daily.
Ellie is survived by her two brothers: Ronald G. Bernard of Florida and Elmer G. (Buddy) Bernard of Ipswich; three sisters: Linda R. Corliss, Barbara A. Hemenway, and Mary A. Good of Florida; two children: Barry C. Neely of Peabody, and Michael D. Neely of Marblehead, and her former daughter-in-law Ann G. Neely of Salem. She is also survived by her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, Ellie was predeceased by her two brothers Philip J. Bernard Jr. of Ipswich, and William D. Bernard of Florida, as well as her beloved son, Philip D. Neely of Haverhill.
Her unconditional love and support were deeply felt by her family and friends, and will be greatly missed. Heaven has gained an angel!
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family politely requests donations to the Kaplan Family Hospice House 76 Liberty Street, Danvers, MA 01923 in honor of the beautiful care they provided to Ellie in her final days.
