Douglas C Davis Obituary

Saco - Douglas Davis, age 83, of Saco, Maine, passed away on April 20, 2026, at Gosnell House in Scarborough, Maine, after a short illness.

He was born on May 28, 1942, in Jamaica, Queens, New York to Dorothy Wendland Davis and Douglas Hyler Davis.

Doug grew up in Danvers, Massachusetts with his brother Bob, and sisters, Jeanne and Joan, and that is where he met the love of his life, Carolyn Stearns. Carolyn invited to a Girl Scout dance in 1956, and they were together for the next 70 years. Doug graduated from Holten High School in Danvers in 1960 and went on to Northeastern University where he graduated with a degree in Accounting and Finance. Doug and Carolyn married in 1964, and on the day of his death, they had been married just shy of 62 years.

After deciding to make a career change, Doug and Carolyn moved to Maine with their two children, Bob and Kim, in 1974. Having established his priorities correctly, he purchased a sailboat before buying their house... and then learned how to sail it. Sailing on Casco Bay was one of his greatest joys. In his last days, when we saw a smile on his face, we knew he was sailing his boat, Alacrity, on a starboard tack at 6 knots through Casco Bay.

Doug also enjoyed his many travels with Carolyn, especially to Paris, where he would entertain the Parisians with his attempt at speaking French. Doug was an avid photographer, a great musician, an active member of Trinity Church in Portland, and then St Alban's in in Cape Elizabeth. Additionally, he was an enthusiastic member the Scarborough Fish and Game Association. Doug was always looking to serve others and truly loved bringing his two dogs to visit residents at Piper Shores and The Cedars.

Work was also an important part of Doug's life. Throughout his career, he owned two companies selling industrial process heating equipment throughout the Northeast. He applied his creativity and hard work to great effect and shared it with those he worked with and for. His fundamental philosophies of business, taking care of customers and the manufacturers he served are still alive and well in the business his son Bob purchased 20 years ago.

Doug is survived by his wife Carolyn, son Bob and his wife Aimee, daughter Kim as well as his six grandchildren, Katie, Charlie, and Maggie Mader, Martin, Lillian, and Natalie Davis, and his brother Bob and his wife Grace.

Memorial service details: A Memorial Service and Remembrance Gathering will take place on Saturday, May 16, from 1-4pm at the Saltwater Grille in South Portland, Maine.
