Portland - Dorothy Janice Scott passed away at The Cedars in Portland, ME on January 22, 2026 with her loved ones by her side. Janice was born in Portland, ME to George and Dorothy Hodgkins on October 6, 1935. She grew up on Bayview Ave in South Portland, ME as part of a close-knit extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. Janice graduated from South Portland High School in 1953.

After high school, Janice went to work at New England Telephone in Portland where she met her future husband, William D. Scott of Medford, MA. Jan and Bill were married on June 27, 1959 in South Portland. They lived in Malden, MA and Laconia, NH before settling in Beverly, MA where they raised their family of four children.

Janice was a stay-at-home mom while her kids were young and active. Once the kids were older, Janice got a job at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School where she worked as a secretaryin the guidance office until she retired in 1987.

In the mid '70s, Jan and Bill bought a home on Thompson Lake in Otisfield, ME where they spent many glorious summer days with their family. In 1987, Jan and Bill retired there and spent the next 32 years at the lake where every day was Saturday! They took up golfing and joined Summit Spring Golf Course in Poland, ME. Janice was also a member of the Maine State Golf Association and competed in ladies' tournaments around the state.

Janice was a great cook and baker. Her whoopie pies were legendary. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, quilting and other crafts and was a regular patron of the Casco Library near her home at the lake.

After Bill died, Janice spent her remaining years at Stroudwater Lodge in Westbrook, ME and finally at The Cedars in Portland. She leaves behind her four children, Bill and his partner Pam Baldwin of South Portland, ME, David and his wife Beckie of Hampden, ME, Jennifer Andersen and her husband Glenn of Beverly, MA and Janie Morose and her husband Tony of Harpswell, ME. Janice is also survived by two beloved grandsons, Michael Andersen and his wife Lauren of Lowell, ME and Jack Andersen of Beverly, MA. Janice was predeceased by Bill, her husband of 60 years, as well as her parents George and Dorothy Hodgkins, her dear sister Sylvia Adams, and favorite aunts Florence Luce, Betty Jackson and Ruth Vickerson.
