Rockport - Dana N. Rankin, 74, of Rockport, husband of Patricia A. (Witham) Rankin, passed away in Danvers, Mass., on April 8, 2021. Dana was born in Danvers, Mass., on October 25, 1946, and was the son of the late Frank A. and Marjorie (Bean) Rankin.
When he finished high school, he joined the Army in 1967 and was a Vietnam veteran. Following his service, he worked at Sylvania for over 33 years. After Sylvania closed he worked at Gordon College for over 15 years as a custodian. In his retirement he worked for the City of Gloucester at Beeman School. He was never an idle man. While at Sylvania, he was on the committee for the Sylvania Association for many years. He was a member of the Atlantic Brassmen Adult Drum & Bugle Corps, a member of the North Shore Christian Men's Choir, a volunteer scout master for the West Gloucester Troop 60, volunteer at the Veteran's Office in Gloucester, a longtime member of the Gloucester Assembly of God Church, where he served in many position's (Sunday School teacher, usher, mentor in the after school tutoring program and a leader of the Royal Rangers.) Dana was also an avid walker, loved to play golf and loved to build and fly model airplanes. He lived most of his life in Gloucester and made the big move to Rockport 13 years ago. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Patricia, whom he was married to for 50 years; his children, Melissa Poole and her husband Brad of Rockport and Keith husband of Lauri-Beth of Pittston, Maine. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Samantha Poole, the light of his life. He is also survived by his brother, Glen, husband of Elizabeth of Georgia; brother-in-law, Henry Witham and wife Nancy; sister-in-law, Shirley Hendrickson and her husband Paul. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, friends and beloved pets.
His visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester, on Tuesday, April 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. Family and friends are cordially invited and are required to wear mask and adhere to social distancing per COVID-19 protocols. His service will be held privately and his burial will be held on Wednesday, April 14, at 11:15 a.m., in Locust Grove Cemetery in the Lanesville, in the Rockport section. All are welcome to attend the service at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations came be made to the Alzheimer's Awareness or the Cape Ann Animal Aid.
