Danvers - Charles "Chuck/Charlie" Hannigan, 68, of Danvers, loving husband of Gail Eaton, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2026. Though stricken with cancer, he defied the odds and continued to work and live life to its fullest.

Charlie was born on June 1, 1958, the son of the late Charles and Rosemary (O'Keefe) Hannigan. He was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody Veterans Memorial High School in 1976. He enjoyed playing football and baseball at PVMHS, as well as coordinating neighborhood sports competitions on Manomet Road. The friends he made during those years remained a constant throughout his life. He graduated from Merrimack College in 1981. After graduating from college, he enlisted in the Army twice, first to attend pharmacy school, and then he reenlisted to become a helicopter pilot.

In 1987, he began a successful career in medical sales. No longer able to resist his entrepreneurial drive, Charlie launched his own company, Elite Medical Equipment and Services, LLC in 2013.

Charlie's legacy can be summed up through his lifelong friendships and the associations he was able to cultivate throughout the years. He had a way of making people feel at ease, possessed the "gift of gab" and was an excellent storyteller – and there were stories to tell! The parties which he hosted were legendary. With a passion for travel, he masterfully coordinated trips to Italian villas, Canadian snowmobiling adventures, and seaside stays in Martha's Vineyard and Newport with family and friends. His adventurous spirit and love of history lured him to visit many European countries, including his beloved Ireland. He was an excellent skier and enjoyed hosting friends and family at his Killington, Vermont ski lodge.

He had a passion for classic cars, and he rebuilt several with his childhood friend, Dan. He was a member of the North Shore Old Car Club.

A long-time Palmer Cove Yacht Club member, Charlie was happiest captaining the "Lady L," filled with family and friends, as he cruised waterways near and far. There wasn't a place he wouldn't go or an adventure he wouldn't attempt. Charlie lived his dreams and took you along to share them. If you were happy and having a great time, he was happy, too.

Charlie was generous, humorous, and had a contagious laugh and a smile that lit up a room. He touched countless lives through his generosity, kindness, and friendship. Lovers of dogs, Charlie and Gail shared many adventures with their adopted Boston Terriers, Noah and Bruin (his buddy till the end), and their beloved Pekingese, Dazee.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks for the unwavering compassion and care given Charlie by the Mass General Hospital personnel at the Boston and Danvers campuses, as well as the staff at Salem Hospital. The medical personnel and professionals alike were touched by his resilience.

In addition to his wife, Gail, with whom he shared 39 years of travel, adventures, and fun, he is survived by his sisters and brother and their spouses; Maureen Kaldes (Charles), Nancy Kocher (Kenneth) all of Peabody, and Edward Hannigan (Heather) of Merritt Island, FL. He is also survived by his nephews and nieces; Drew and Allisa Kaldes and their children Charlie and Lyla; Maura and Alex Boucher, and Zackary, Raina and Kali Hannigan. He also leaves his brother-in-law Philip Eaton and his wife, Debbie.

Per Charlie's wishes, there will be no services. Instead create a memory with family and friends that will bring you joy and happiness.
