Carolyn Ann Jones Obituary

South Hamilton - Carolyn "Carol" Jones, of Hamilton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026 at Beverly Hospital surrounded by the lifetime of love she enjoyed after a period of declining health.

Born on September 1, 1947 in Beverly, she was the only daughter and youngest child of Martin and Lillian (Jones) Main, joining older brothers Wayne and Archie.

Carol was raised and educated in Beverly and after graduating from Beverly High School,

continued her education at the New England Telephone school for electronics and became the first female Central Office technician in the Northeast. Carol had a successful and noteworthy 42 year career with the phone company, ending her tenure with Verizon prior to a retirement filled with travel and adventure. Married to her soulmate and partner, Paul Jones in 1968, the two would have celebrated 58 years of marriage on August 24th.

Carol loved to sew, often making her own clothes, and to be outside with her beloved dogs. Carol and Paul adventured everywhere in their retirement and in Northern Scotland, one of her favorite places, she met the chief of the Gunn Clan and claimed her spot as a fellow member. Carol also enjoyed many spots in England. Famously bright, quick-witted and sassy, Carol once insisted on feeding a famous flock of giant swans there, needing to be forcibly pulled from their midst as they tried to make her theirs. Carol also laid claim to her role as one of the founding seven families of Monkton, New Brunswick and thought Alberta was particularly beautiful.

Carol is survived by her husband Paul Jones of South Hamilton; two brothers, Wayne Main of Middlefield, Martin "Archie" Main of Middlefield; beloved nephews and nieces, Todd Main of Beverly, Michelle "Missy" Main of Middlefield, David Main of Whitefield, ME, and Eric Main of Middlefield. In addition to her parents, Carol joins special nephew Gary Main in the Great Beyond where they will no longer be separated by the bounds of earthly containment, free to laugh together and catch up on their decades apart.

Her funeral service will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly on Tuesday, June 9th at 4pm. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 2pm to 4pm.
