IPSWICH - Burrett B. "Burty" Richardson, 91, died February 16, 2023 at CareOne at Essex Park in Beverly. He was the former husband of the late Susan (Howard) Boice.

Born in Ipswich on January 10, 1932, he was the son of the late Ralph W. and Stella L. (Squarrey) Richardson. 'Burty' was raised in Ipswich and graduated from Ipswich public schools. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Idar-Oberstein, Germany, during the Korean War and was an active member of the Ipswich VFW Post 1093. His family owned and ran the landmark Ipswich News Store on Market Street for many years.

He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Bruins, and had season tickets for many years, and loved baseball and the Red Sox. He always enjoyed meeting his group of "townie" friends for coffee at Marty's Donut Shop, and occasionally traveled around New England with some of them. He also enjoyed reading books and magazines about his many interests, watching vintage TV programs and doing crossword puzzles. A long-time resident of East Street and more recently of Southern Manor, Burty always kept a positive attitude and appreciated everything he had, a lesson that we could all learn from.

His funeral service with Military Honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 11 graveside in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Town Farm Road, Ipswich. Family and friends are cordially welcomed.
