Salem - Mrs. Bonnie C. (Brymer) Kobialka, 72, of Salem, beloved wife of the late Michael Kobialka, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Beverly she was the daughter of the late Frank and Muriel (MacDonald) Brymer. She was a 1967 graduate of Salem High School. Bonnie received her Associates degree from Essex Agricultural and Technical Institute in the 1990s.
Mrs. Kobialka had been employed at Anthony's Pier 4 as an administrative assistant for over 22 years where she was known for her attention to detail, her quick smile and easy-going personality. She developed a knack for flexibility and logistical arrangements, based in her desire for others to be happy. In her earlier career, Bonnie cared for the children of several wonderful families whom she adored. She maintained loving ties with the people that had entered her life through endless small gestures of kindness, consideration and remembering.
Always on the go, Bonnie enjoyed traveling with family and friends, and visiting Downton Abbey and the Durrells in Corfu. She relished the quest for victorian furniture, hydrangea-patterned dishes and lace of almost any sort, and was especially enthusiastic about Zumba. She loved music, but generally required that it "have a beat, so I can MOVE!" She was a member of the Polish Club in Danvers and the gym, oh man, the gym!
Bonnie was thoughtful and kind and went to great lengths to make sure her family was well taken care of. She enjoyed making a nice home to share with others and sang delightfully as she worked unless the sewing machine jammed up. She was renowned for her prizewinning and often spur-of-the-moment Halloween costumes designed for friends and family, especially for her mother-in-law, Pauline. Her Christmas cookie "game" was stunning and hovered somewhere between professional and genius level. She was a great confidant and supporter, trustworthy and always willing to help. Always showing up with a cooler full of snacks and finger sandwiches. She is deeply missed by her loving family and many friends and fondly remembered for her glorious sense of humor, her brilliant smile and her kind and generous soul. They will recall her kindnesses often.
Surviving Bonnie are her children, Kristen Kobialka and Marc Kobialka both of Salem, her sister, Sally Giaimo and her husband Joe of Sussex, NJ and Rosalie Marcotte and husband Roger of East Freetown, Mass., her sister-in-law, Helene Macaruso of West Greenwich, RI, many wonderful nieces and nephews, cats and grand-cats and the swellest group of friends a woman could ask for.
Her visiting hours and celebration of life will be held in the O'Donnell Funeral Home, 46 Washington Sq. (at Salem Common) Salem on Saturday, November 23rd from 1 to 3 p.m. Relatives and friends invited: Please come! Expressions of sympathy may be made in Bonnie's memory to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Suite 102B, Danvers, MA 01923 or to My Brother's Table, 98 Willow St., Lynn, MA 01901. Bonnie came into my life exactly as she lived hers. With vim and vigor, an amazing sense of humor and so much love. She arrived one day in my fitness class at Salem Fitness and immediately I knew she was special. Over the years we shared many fun times both in class and outside of the gym. She is loved and will be missed. She is a true treasure and a light of love. As I've told several of the ladies already, it's up to us to continue to carry on her light. And while we won't do it as well as Bonnie, we will forever carry her light with us.

What a wonderful neighbor Bonnie was - always with a smile, a burst of energy, and an inquiry into how you were doing. She was also a talented gardener, and her colorful displays were a delight to view all summer long. I'm attaching a photo I took of one of her arrangements. My deepest condolences to her friends and family. She will be fondly remembered.
