Beverly - Boglarka "Bogi" Mahan, 47, of Beverly, passed away Wednesday, January 21, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a courageous battle with cancer. Wife of Brian Mahan of Beverly and daughter of István and Ezsébet (Magyar) Bujdosó of Hungary, Bogi was born in Szabadsza'lla's, Hungary where she was raised. The Hungarian name Boglarka translates to buttercup. Her family name of Bujdoso means hidden. Her full maiden name means hidden flower.
In 5th grade Bogi and her sister enrolled in judo. They went to several competitions. Including an international judo competition in France. Bogi called this a trip of a lifetime. She demonstrated her judo skill in 2001 at a lake in Hungary as she lifted and tossed her 6'1" future husband into the lake. A story she was proud of and loved to tell.
Bogi attended the university of Kaposvar in Hungary. She obtained degrees in journalism and teaching. After graduation she was hired as a reported for the local Kapos tv where she worked until coming to the United Stated in 2003.
Bogi loved being active and outdoors. She took up snowboarding and enjoyed walking trails, hiking mountains, and going kayaking. She would spend hours planting flowers and working in the garden. Many times, she cursed and chased away rabbits for eating her beautiful flowers.
Most of all Bogi loved being a mom. From early days taking the kids to the playground to all the sporting events and music concerts. She took pride in the growth and accomplishments of her 2 kids who meant the world to her. Boglarka was the kindest and sweetest person you could ever meet.
