Rockport - Barbara Clark (Haley) Paradis, 90, died very peacefully at Addison Gilbert Hospital on Saturday, September 4, 2021. During Barbara's final days she was surrounded by her loving family, who made sure she knew that her life was very well lived and that her work in this life was complete. She received prayers and blessings from all who knew her over her final days. Barbara died of natural causes and is now rejoined with her deceased husband, Frank Thomas Paradis with whom she shared 55 years of marriage.
Barbara was an only child born in the town of Hamilton, Massachusetts on August 1, 1931. She was truly a member of the greatest generation. Although she lived in Rockport for her entire life after marrying Frank, she was always proud of her Hamilton childhood and upbringing and all that beautiful town had to offer her as a child. Barbara was the daughter of the late Everett F. "Chuck" Haley and Doris (Clark) Haley. Her family was hardworking and dedicated to the town of Hamilton in so many ways.
Barbara attended Hamilton High School, graduating with the class of 1949. She went on to attend a program at Boston University for two years obtaining a certificate in secretarial studies. She later became a secretary for a law firm in Lynn, MA, commuting to Lynn by train from Hamilton each day. After meeting her future husband Frank on a blind date, they quickly fell in love and married in 1953 settling in Rockport. Barbara was a dedicated and true stay at home mom, performing the toughest job in the world according to her husband Frank, that being to raise their four children. Barbara was an awesome mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother right through her final breath.
Barbara enjoyed a life filled with quiet and humble public service. She was an active communicant at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, serving for decades on the altar guild. She was a member of the American Legion Post 98 Woman's Auxiliary, proudly marching in many Memorial Day parades. She always enjoyed selling poppies to raise money for the veteran's. Barbara served the town of Rockport by working at the election polls, registering voters, and working at the annual town meetings. Barbara was an active member of the Pigeon Cove Circle. She enjoyed playing tennis with the ladies for many years and was quite a bowler in her day in the woman's league at the Cape Ann Bowling alley with a "career best" string of 139 rolled on November 3, 1965! Barbara worked as a volunteer at the AGH Gift Shop for many years. She did enjoy working for a few years at the Pewter Shop on Bearskin Neck as well.
Along with her late husband Frank, Barbara would do her best to never miss any event, game, play, concert, ceremony, or graduation in which any of her children and later grandchildren were a part of. Family was everything to her and it was her family who kept her active in her final days. The example set by Barbara and Frank was one that challenges us all to be good and caring people to everyone we encounter.
Our family would like to thank the caring staff at Addison Gilbert Hospital for making her final days safe and comfortable. We would also like to thank Care Dimensions for their support in the final days. We would like to thank the staff at Sunrise in Peabody for bringing joy and life to our mom for the two months she was a resident there. A special thanks to Sandra and Dan of Home Instead who provided in home care for mom for many months keeping her safe and engaged. To Justine Quinn and her deceased husband Dave and to Kay Murphy, thanks for being there for mom in your very special ways every day. Finally, to all her Dunkin' Donuts friends over the years who truly made her day each time she was able to wander over for a cup of hot "lava."
Barbara is survived by her two daughters Barbara McCarthy of Rockport and her daughter Haley, wife of Robert Clausen and their son Jacob, Michele Santos, her husband Antonio "Tony" Santos of Beverly and their children Amelia, her wife Alison and Jeffrey; her two sons Frank Paradis, his wife Patti (Ouellette) of Beverly and their sons Ryan and his wife Gabriella, and Evan, and Tom Paradis, his wife Deborah of Rockport and their daughter Alexandra.
