LYNN - Barbara G. (White) Burke of Essex, beloved mother of nine, passed away Monday, August 30th, at home, with loving family.
Barbara was born to Steven White and Eva (Jackson) Bartlett on February 23, 1931 in Lynn, MA. She was a graduate of Lynn Classical and lived in Lynn and Swampscott for most of her life. She was employed at the General Electric Co. prior to her marriage and returned after her youngest child went to school until her retirement in 1999.
Barbara was devoted to her family and most enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was an avid beano player, intrepid traveler, robust shopper and faithful reader of the daily newspaper. Barbara could do anything to which she set her mind.
Barbara leaves behind her children Ellen F. Shilobod of Cumberland, Maryland, Timothy Burke and his wife Tracy of San Pedro, CA, Thomas Burke and his wife Tyler of S. Hamilton, William Burke, of Edgartown, Stephen Burke and his wife Sharon of North Reading, Barbara Dyer and her husband William of Gloucester, James Burke and his wife, Dina Komarova of Essex, MA, Christine Burke of Salem, Michael Burke of Medford, OR, twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Frances Messina, her brother, William White, and her husband, Timothy J. Burke.
Relatives and friends are invited to Barbara's celebration of life at the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.on Saturday, September 4th. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.cuffemcginn.com for the Burke family.
