Alexander E. Copoulos, 94, of Peabody, Mass., passed away peacefully at home on November 3, 2016, while surrounded by family. Born in Lowell, Mass., to the late Bertha and Ernest Copoulos on November 21, 1921, he is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Mrs. Dorothy A. Stilianos Copoulos, also of Peabody; his sons, Ernest Copoulos of Peabody and Michael Copoulos of Hope Mills, N.C.; and daughter, Jan-Margaret Haseldine and husband, Mike of Annapolis, Md. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Crista Logan and husband, Josh and Theadora and Eva Haseldine; great grand-child, Henry Logan; sister, Pasy Magulas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Alexander Joseph Copoulos; and siblings, Nancy Priftakis, Irene Copoulos, Caliope “Poppy” Chrisos, Aphrodite “Blondie” Samora, and George “Hooky” Copoulos.
Mr. Copoulos, fondly known as “Slip," grew up in Lynn, Mass., where he graduated from Lynn Classical High School. Shortly thereafter he joined the Navy and served in the Pacific Rim during WWII. He retired from the civil service in the mid-1980s and since enjoyed gardening, cooking (the best spanakopita ever), sports, reading and savoring a good cigar and a glass of red while spending time with family and friends. Mr. Copoulos was a lifelong Boston sports fan, avid golfer (had a birdie at every hole at Gannon), skier, and Little League and football coach. He was also a lifelong member of St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church in Lynn, Mass., where as a youth he played on the church basketball team.
A private celebration of life service for family and friends will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations in his name may be made to the Make-a-Wish Foundation, One Bulfinch Place, 2nd Floor, Boston, MA 02114.
