Virginia M.'s Story
Virginia M. (Ring) Carmichael, 92, died Saturday, February 4, 2017 peacefully in Naples, Fla. where she spent winters surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Lynn on March 15, 1924, she was the eldest daughter of Dr. Frank and Harriet Palmer Ring of Swampscott. She graduated Westbrook Junior College and Columbia University in New York City where she earned her degree in dental hygiene.
Virginia “Ginny” married Robert “Bob” Carmichael in 1944 and raised their four daughters in Swampscott, Massachusetts. Ginny and Bob retired to Cape Cod in Dennis, Massachusetts in 1985. She was predeceased by Robert July 28, 1986.
She was known for her ready wit, dry humor, contagious laugh and didn’t want to miss a thing that was going on. In her 92 years, she touched many lives and brought much joy to her family and many friends. Ginny leaves behind four daughters and their families: Sherry Ann Haskell and her husband, Andrew of Bull Shoals AR, Sarah Zegarowski and her husband Richard “Ziggy” of Salem MA, Sharon Reil and her husband John of Sterling, and Holly Fader and her husband Mark of Marblehead, and eight grandchildren, Adam Clayman of Portland Maine, Elizabeth Clayman of Brooklyn, NY, Benjamin Hogan and his fiancee, Lauren Palma of West Boylston, Robert Carmichael Hogan and his wife, Blair and great-grandson Robert Carmichael Hogan Jr. of Marlborough, John Zegarowski of Salem and Eric Fader of South Boston, Dean Robert Fader of Marblehead and the late Ryan Walter Fader. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was well-loved and the heart of family occasions and has left us all with many happy and humorous memories which will be shared for years to come.
