Virginia D. "Gini"'s Story
Virginia D. “Gini” Player, 81, died Tuesday evening January 24, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family after a brief illness.
Born in Ipswich on July 24, 1935 she was the daughter of the late Gordon D. and Eva M. (Surrette) Player. She was the youngest of 15 children.
Gini was raised and educated in Ipswich, she was a graduate of Ipswich High School. She was a life-long resident of the town. Gini was an employee of the New England Telephone Company for over 35 years, she was a manager in several offices throughout the state. A very active member of the Ascension Memorial Episcopal Church in Ipswich she commissioned a stain glass artist to create a window that memorialized her entire family that she donated to the Church. Gini was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star in Ipswich and was a past Worthy Matron. She was also very active in the Rowley Grange. Gini was a member of the Telephone Company’s retirement group called the Telephone Pioneers of America. In her retirement she volunteered for several organizations in Ipswich. She enjoyed working at a floral shop and she was employed at the former Hills Family Clothing Store in Ipswich for many years. She had taught ceramics at one time. Gini loved to travel, enjoyed knitting and reading. She was a daily walker with her good friend, Kathy Hirbour.
Gini is survived by her long-time companion, Marshall Bowden of Ipswich. She is also survived by her two sisters, Kathryn Kellie and Jacqueline Atkinson, both of Ipswich and by many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her eight brothers, Gordon, Joseph, Donald, John, David, George, Paul and Richard and by her four sisters, Lillian, Hazel, Beverly and Thelma.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 28, at 10 a.m. at the Ascension Memorial Episcopal Church 31 County Street, Ipswich. Burial will follow in the Highland Cemetery, 29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich. Visiting hours will be Friday, January 27, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Morris Funeral Home, 45 North Main Street, Ipswich.
