Text size

Theodore J Andrews (Ted) 93, of Peabody, died Wednesday February 15, 2017 following a brief illness.
Born in Peabody, he was the son of James and Annie (Lekakis) Andromidas. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody and graduated Peabody High School, Class of 1941.
Ted was a veteran of World War II who proudly served in the Pacific Theater with the United States Army as Staff Sergeant. He flew 35 missions as radio operator on B29 aircraft and was the recipient of many medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Following his military service, Theodore worked in leather factories in Peabody and then for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier for over 35 years until his retirement in 1989. He was very active in the city of Peabody and served for 20 years as Liquor Commissioner under former Mayor Peter Torigian.

His highest priority was always his family. His love, support, understanding, guidance and acceptance was felt by all. His beautiful, genuine smile was joyous and all encompassing and will be greatly missed.

He married his childhood sweetheart, Anna (Gambos) Andrews, the girl who moved next door and stole his heart. They shared over 69 years of marriage and three children: Jim Andrews and his wife, Janet, of Nevada, Ellen Andrews Lee and husband Sang of Andover, and Bill Andrews and his wife Kathy of Reading. He also leaves his brother, Peter Andrews of Florida and his sister, Ethel Panagas of Topsfield as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He adored his seven grandchildren, Michael, Kevin, Kristen, Sunny, Jenny, Taylor and Nick. He also had three great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Walker and Julia. He wrote supportive, amusing, guiding letters to his grandchildren over the years which will be re-read and cherished forever.
At the request of the family, a private Funeral Service was held on Tuesday February 21st, with burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Peabody.
