Mr. Terrence J. Gallant, 80, of Peabody, beloved husband of Joanne (Babin) Gallant, died Friday, July 21, 2017, at Salem Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late James and Bertha (Collins) Gallant. He was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Beverly Trade School, Class of 1953 and Salem High School, Class of 1954. An outstanding athlete, Terry excelled on the basketball court as a member of the varsity basketball team.
Mr. Gallant had been employed in the maintenance department with the Catholic Archdiocese of Boston for over 26 years until the time of his retirement. He had previously been associated with the United Shoe Machine Corporation. Talented with his hands, he was a skilled carpenter and would tackle any project given to him with precision.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he was a lifelong member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 18 of Salem, where he served as secretary and treasurer of the organization. He made many friends over the years at the AOH and always enjoyed the friendship and fellowship the club provided. A truly devoted family man, Terrence enjoyed spending his time golfing and traveling. He was an animal lover at heart. He endeared himself to many with his profound sense of humor and outgoing personality. He was always found with a smile on his face and an out-stretched hand to make a new friend. Family was paramount in his life. His most memorable moments were spent with family and friends. He was lucky to have two great lifelong best friends, Ronald Kacherian and the late Harry Garabedian. He will be deeply missed.
