Susan (Belanger)'s Story
Susan E. (Belanger) Gagnon, 69, homemaker and seamstress, died Monday, March 6, 2017, at Beverly Hospital following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of Donald R. Gagnon.
Born in Beverly on March 2, 1948, she was the daughter of the late J. Albert and Arlene (St.Peter) Belanger. She was a lifelong resident of Beverly and a graduate of Beverly High School, Class of 1966.
A talented seamstress, she could sew, knit or crochet almost anything. At one time she co-owned the former Pin-Cushion in Beverly, where she sold all of her handmade items. She was an active volunteer at the Northeast Animal Shelter, where she fostered many cats and kittens over the last few years.
In addition to her husband of 48 years, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Robert Fortado of Beverly; her son, Christopher Gagnon of Millers, Md.; three grandchildren, Brianna, David and Kathryn Fortado, all of Beverly; sister, Bonnie Sweeney of Litchfield, N.H.; brother, Michael Belanger and his wife, Andrea of Beverly; and many nieces, nephews and cousins; as well as her beloved cats, Midnight and Roxie. She was also predeceased by two brothers-in-law, Richard Sweeney and Paul Gagnon.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday in St. John the Evangelist Church, New Balch St., Beverly at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday in the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., Beverly from 4 to 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beverly. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave., Salem, MA 01970.
