Salvatore's Story

Text size

Salvatore Seminatore of Hernando, Fla., and formerly of Peabody, Mass., died peacefully in Lecanto, Fla., at the age of 82.
Born in Lynn, Mass., to Gaetano and Mary (Nicosia) Seminatore, “Sonny” as he was known to everyone, was the only brother to three sisters who adored and doted on him. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School, Lynn in 1953, and enlisted in the Air Force, serving as Airman 2nd class / Military police. While stationed in Germany, he met and married his wife, Barbara. Employed at General Electric for 37 years, he started in the machine shop and worked his way up to technical illustrator.
Sal and Barbara were blessed with a son and a daughter. Sal was a wonderful father who loved and cherished his children.
On weekends you would always find him working in the yard. He created a beautiful backyard paradise for his family at their home in Peabody. If he wasn’t in the garden, he was in the garage, working on his second love, his 1959 Thunderbird, which he painstakingly restored. He also enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles, and sketching and painting. He was a dog lover and had many faithful companions over the years. He was an active member of St. Adelaide’s Church in Peabody where he served as an usher for many years. Later, he was a member of Our Lady of Grace Parish in Beverly Hills, Fla. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
While Sonny was just a nickname, in hindsight he could have been given this name for his sunny disposition. He always had a smile on his face and loved a good loud laugh. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Sal is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara of Hernando, Fla.; his loving children, Christian Seminatore and wife, Donna of Revere, Eva and husband, Alex Luther; his beloved grandchildren, Alex and Zach Vlachos, Max and Emma Luther, all of Peabody; his adoring sisters, Matilda and husband, Richard Lewis of Hyde Park, and Anna and husband, Tom McMaster of Peabody; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Sal was preceded in death by his parents and his sister and brother-in-law, Theresa and Robert Birmingham.
Friends and family are invited to join us for a celebration of life on September 29, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Adelaide Church in West Peabody. Memorial donations in memory of Salvatore may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
