Ruth Budd, 98, of Danvers and formerly Methuen, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2017, at the New England Home for the Deaf in Danvers, Mass.
Ruth was born on September 20, 1918, in Lawrence, Mass., to Frank and Ameilla (Hamilton) Monroe. She attended the Essex Agricultural Institution of Technology in Danvers. Ruth married her husband, Hardy on April 4, 1940. Throughout her life, Ruth worked at Hatcher’s Clothing in Beverly, Dasa of Andover, and the former Western Electric of North Andover, until her retirement.
Ruth was a member of the Lawrence Deaf Club and the Merrimack Valley Senior Citizens. She loved to cook and was a talented seamstress.
Her family members include her son, Mark and his wife, Heidi of Methuen; daughters, Carol Budd and Betty York of Canisteo, N.Y.; grandchildren, Belinda Carroll and Timothy Monigan; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Hardy Budd; her brothers, Roy, Ernie, Frank, Whitey, Bill and Kenneth Monroe; sisters, Frances Torrisi, Shirley Lawlor, Doris Wajnor, Hazel Barton, Chris Cunningham, Peggy Coughlin, and Meil Mansor; and grandchildren, Amy Monigan and Sheila Monigan Lyman.
The family would like to thank the staff of both New England Home for the Deaf and Care Dimensions of Danvers for their wonderful care of Ruth.
Calling hours will take place on Saturday, February 11, 2017, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel following the calling hours at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, make donations to New England Home for the Deaf at NEHD.org.
