Roberta Elizabeth's Story
Roberta E. (Hayes) Andrews, 63, passed away after suffering from a lengthy illness, Tuesday, January 10, 2017, surrounded by her family at home.
Born in Salem, Mass., on August 26, 1953, to the late Mary-Helen (Flynn), and Robert Hayes, she graduated from Marblehead High School in 1972, and Fisher College in 1974. She was still very active in alumni events relating to those two classes.
She worked in the ophthalmology field for over 40 years at various practices before ending up working for Dr. John Gurley in Manchester-by-the-Sea for the past 10 years.
Full of life, Berta was a woman of boundless energy, positive spirit and a huge heart. She always put others before herself, and always wanted to make her friends and family as happy and comfortable as possible. She was known for hosting many family events, such as cookouts, and holiday parties, where she would always puts her guests first, and almost never accept help in putting things together.
Berta was always up for an adventure. Whether it was just a ride around Marblehead, or to take off for a week or two with her family, Berta loved going on vacations with her family and friends. She always enjoyed planning fun trips and activities for her loved ones. She and her family traveled all over the United States, and she was always planning the next trip before the one she was on was even over. In recent years, she and her husband, Steve, traveled to Alaska and the Canadian Rockies, where they rented an RV and just traveled at their own pace, making new friends, and enjoying the open outdoors together.
She was an avid photographer, and took countless pictures of everything she encountered. She volunteered for the Marblehead Festival of Arts, taking pictures at numerous events. She never went anywhere without her camera, and became very interested in digital photography as it became popular.
She leaves behind her husband of 34 years, Stephen A. Andrews, and her son, Stephen A. Andrews, Jr., both of Marblehead. She leaves behind a brother, Peter Hayes of Beaumont, Texas, his wife/her sister-in-law, Shelley Hayes, their children, her niece, Bryanna Hayes, and nephews, Levi and Ryan Hayes, also all of Beaumont, Texas. She also leaves behind her brother-in-law, Joseph J. Andrews, and his wife, Jeanette H. Andrews of Marblehead, their daughter, Lisa Starnes, her husband, John, and their daughter, Lilia of Atlanta, Ga. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Susan G. Hamilton, and her husband, Peder Q. Hamilton of Kingston, N.H., and her two nieces, Brianna Moynihan-Sienkiewicz, and her husband, Adam Sienkiewicz of Northwood, N.H., and her niece, Kristin Wilson of Hudson, N.H.
